APPLECROSS WALLED GARDEN
Gifts
The old potting sheds also houses a small but well stocked shop with an eclectic mix of gifts,(local and fairtrade) fine foods, books, kids stuff, and 'useful things.'
Favourites include our range of 'Heather gems' - jewelery made from Highland heather.
The Potting Shed Cafe and Restaurant
Applecross Walled Garden & the award winning Potting Shed Cafe & Restaurant lies in the heart of the spectacular Applecross Estate in Wester Ross at the western end of Bealach na Ba, Britain's highest mountain pass.
Surrounded by mountains, rivers and forests and with the Inner Sound of Raasay a stone throw away, we are well placed to take advantage of a huge wealth of locally sourced food.
In the refurbished old potting sheds and greenhouses along the inside wall of the garden, you will find Elaine and her staff working hard to bring you an unrivalled selection of home baking, teas, coffees, light lunches, and full meals.
We are licensed to serve alcohol so you can enjoy a beer or glass of wine too! With an acre or two of garden surrounded by a 14' wall the kids are safe to wander around and play, so you might even get a moment's peace. And some lovely circular walks begin at the carpark so you can work up an appetite, or burn off the calories too!
Locally Sourced Food
Local sourcing is a cliche used by restaurants throughout the land, but for many the phrase is simply a marketing tool. Here at the walled garden local sourcing really is a way of life.
Jackie spends her days growing the fruit and veg in your salads and desserts, Jon (the proprietor) works on a local fishing boat bringing home prawns, squat lobsters, fish for fishcakes, crab and even the occasional octopus.
Marianne tends the Toscaig wild boar/Tamworth piggies, (probably the happiest piggies you will ever see) that appear on our evening menus. Lamb also comes from Toscaig while Venison comes from the estate, and is butchered 'in house.
The "food miles for many of these foods is.....four and for some could be better measured in yards, but for us it's not just about food miles, and "knowing the provenance" but also about supporting young people striving to live and thrive in a fragile community on the western edge of Europe.
Perhaps our marketing cliche should be "Applecross Walled Garden - your food is our future"
